Muwaya Primary School, established in 2006, began as a community initiative, without a single classroom block, but a dream to have a school in the neighbourhood. This dream was handed over to the Ministry of Education in 2012, laying a foundation for the future.

Today, the school is a hub for learning for over 500 pupils from 12 neighbouring villages. It stands as a symbol of the community’s resolve, but not without its challenges. Among them was the pressing need for adequate teacher accommodation.

Addressing this need, Handyman’s Lime, with the support of the Carmeuse Foundation, initiated the construction of a two-in-one teacher’s housing unit in 2022. This initiative was more than a mere construction project; it was also in line with SDG 4, ensuring quality education for all.

The completion of the housing culminated in an official handover ceremony on 19 June 2024. The event was a vibrant celebration, featuring performances from the talented pupils of the Muwaya Primary School, local community dance groups and women’s group, all celebrating this milestone.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed government officials, including the Permanent Secretary, District Education Board Secretary and the District Commissioner. The local community’s pride was clear, represented by parents, teachers, the community chairman and a representative from his Royal Highness Senior Chief Chiwala’s office. Together, they stood united in their enthusiasm for this significant achievement.

Muwaya’s story is one of resilience and progress. We proudly collaborate with this school to work towards a brighter future for its pupils and the community at large.
