We have been helping the Bandia community for several years with their project to combat malnutrition, by regularly supplying food and organizing training courses for women on nutritious meals. This year, we will take our support a step further. Carmeuse Senegal will sponsor a cereal processing unit. We held the first workshop with the women in August, in order to set up the cereal unit’s steering committee and define tasks. The next step will be in November, when we will organize training for the committee members in finance and organization. Afterward, we will provide the cereal processing machine and the initial material to get started.
The goal is to ensure women’s financial independence in the long term. The unit will allow for the sale of flour, but should also encourage the population to consume more local cereals, which are rich in vitamins and easy to obtain and prepare.
