After six months of very intensive works, the whole team of Carmeuse Tunisie is proud to confirm that the former Socha plant located in El Hamma, near Gabès in Tunisia, has been brought back to life, within Carmeuse safety and quality standards.

Overcoming all hurdles, the 220 ton per day Maerz kiln, re-started on September 2nd, 2021. Even the impressive Covid surge did not manage to slow us down, thanks to an appropriate action plan.
In these few months, with the full commitment of each and every member of the Carmeuse Tunisia team, the plant has been cleaned, engineered and revamped to the Carmeuse standards, trained in all aspects, automated and thoroughly re-commissioned, all this with the strong dedicated support of our Carmeuse colleagues of Tech for Lime and the Group.

Both quality and nominal capacity targets have already been exceeded. The production has yet to be stabilized in order to soon load our first vessel.
Beyond the project teams, our gratitude also goes to our partner UGFS, the Tunisian Investment Agency and the Governorate of Gabes, for their unconditional trust and support.
